Are you getting ready to celebrate Bonfire Night?

It’s November and it’s time for Bonfire Night! This is one of my favourite times of year when we get to dress up warmly, go out as a family at nighttime and watch our local fireworks display…

I can see the similarities of a fireworks display on Bonfire Night to a children’s gymnastics competition. Each child is a bright spark with their own individual personality. In the same way that each firework is skilfully created each of your bright sparks deserves to be nurtured so that their individuality can shine through. Some children look very graceful when they perform their gym skills, like a fountain whereas others are more punchy and dynamic, like a rocket. Each child creates their own unique explosion of prettiness just like a firework and all of them make a lot of noise!!

A BEAUTIFUL FOUNTAIN OF GYMNASTICS

So what’s your favourite firework?… Could it be a fountain with it’s beautiful shower of sparks, a catherine wheel, a spinning sensation, a rocket that whistles as it flies through the sky or do you like to hold a sparkler and draw your own patterns in the air and reminisce about what it felt like to do this for the very first time as a child?

Now that it’s nearly time for ‘The Flair Championships’ on Saturday 30th November I’d like to reiterate the importance of competition. ‘The Flair Championships’ is a friendly gymnastics and trampolining competition between all of our Flair gym clubs. We believe that fun and competition go hand in hand. Winning and losing is part of the journey and friendly competitions help to develop vital life skills including confidence and self esteem. If your child doesn’t win a medal this time, please don’t worry or get upset. Your child will learn from the experience and blossom. They are likely to react by being more determined next time around, which may well lead to coming home with a medal.

Are you getting ready to celebrate Bonfire Night?THE JOY OF WINNING

Please keep up your awesome encouragement of your children’s achievements big or small as this really helps to boost their confidence. In the lead up to the competition, please avoid having overly high expectations for your child, instead allow them to develop at their own pace with the help of their fantastic coaches. We want you to sit back, relax and enjoy the Flair Champs Event!

Think of the crescendo to a big fireworks display – you may think that the biggest, most beautiful firework at the end was the best but that doesn’t mean that all the other fireworks in the display with their own individual sparks were less important. We hope you really enjoy watching your very own little firecrackers perform!

Thank you in advance for supporting your child throughout their gymnastics adventures, but especially on competition days when it means so much for them to see your face in the audience. I would also like to thank you for offering every member at the competition day your heartfelt praise, building their confidence and celebrating their uniqueness as they grow and develop as part of the Flair family.

If you would like to find out more about our clubs why not come along for a Trial Class at one of our gymnastics clubs in Surrey. We’d love to meet you!

Have a sparkling Bonfire Night!

Best wishes,
